Summer Program in The Netherlands

Program Description

Want an international experience that's less than an entire semester abroad? Want an international experience where you're with other students and faculty from WC who speak English? Would you like to get a course ahead to make that second semester senior year more manageable?

The International Business Experience Course in Europe may be right for you. The location for the course is Leiden in Holland, and the dates for the course usually run through the first two weeks of July. The course is taught by Dr. Terry Scout.

The course is structured so that you will learn as much about international business as possible in a relatively short time. From Leiden we will visit a variety of European businesses and European Union institutions and have presentations on international business by Leiden faculty. However, you will have free time to explore the cultural aspects of The Netherlands and Europe on your own. Most evenings are free as are two weekends. Public transportation is inexpensive and easy to use. Students often go to Amsterdam in the evenings and on weekends. Some students go to Paris one of the weekends.

The course is a regular business course and counts as four credits. The exact cost of the course has not been confirmed yet but last year the cost was $4900 which included everything - tuition, all transportation expenses to, from and within Europe, housing and admissions—except meals. During the normal academic year tuition for a part-time student taking one course is $4940 at WC. Therefore, the cost for the summer International Business Experience course is less than the cost of one course during the regular academic year.

If you are interested in participating, please e-mail Dr. Terry Scout. There will be a meeting of interested students before the end of the fall semester. At that time, Dr. Scout will try to answer any and all questions. By the end of January it will be necessary to make a commitment, including a deposit, and then everyone will get set to go in July.
